Hal Pilkington is a London based cinematographer. He has shot a plethora of commercial work for clients such as Amazon Prime Video, Umbro, University College London and the National Archives.
While studying at university, he met a group of filmmakers and together founded the production company Campdale Motion, for which he has shot a variety of narrative shorts, including the upcoming 16mm sci-fi drama ‘Flight of Fancy’, due to premiere in May 2024.
Hal’s approach to storytelling is influenced heavily by his background in the lighting department, in which he has worked on productions for Netflix and the BBC. Integrating his background in philosophy, Hal is seeking to develop his own unique, conceptually informed style that can apply to any project, whether it be commercial or narrative.
Hal also directs his own narrative films. Hal made his fiction directorial debut in 2022 with ‘Smiley Face’ shot on 16mm black and white film. He is currently writing his next short, as well as a feature film.
